---In 1930, Mildred Cunningham 18, and Arthur Thompson, 17, went their separate ways after Mildred's father disapproved of them getting married. Today the story has a fairy-tail ending because they were finally united in marriage after 60 years of wondering about each other's whereabouts.

---Arthur Thompson, age 89, of Kirksville, Missouri passed away Saturday, May 10, 2003 in the Harry S. Truman Veterans Hospital in Columbia, Missouri.
---He was born September 9, 1913 in Chillicothe, Missouri the son of Arthur H. and Almeta Rolls Thompson. He was united in marriage to Edna Thompson who preceded him in death.
---He was also preceded in death by his parents and one brother.
---Arthur is survived by one son, Bill Thompson of Orion, Illinois; two grandchildren, Andrew Thompson of East Moline, Illinois and Patsy Feeney and husband, Kevin of Davenport, Iowa; one great-granddaughter, Kathleen Feeney and two nephews Bobby Cooley of Ottumwa, Iowa and Richard Cooley of St. Louis, Missouri.
---He was raised in Chillicothe, Missouri and served in the U. S. Army during World War II where he earned two Bronze Stars and was prisoner of war for six months in Dresden, Germany. After he received an honorable discharge from the service December 9, 1945, he moved to Detroit, Michigan. Later he moved to Kirksville, Missouri where he owned and operated Thompson Garbage Disposal until his retirement when he sold the business. He was a member of the D.A.V. Post #48.
---Funeral service will be held Wednesday (May 14, 2003) at 2:00 p.m. at the Davis-Playle-Hudson-Rimer Funeral Chapel in Kirksville, Missouri. Reverend Jim Robinson will officiate the service. Burial will be in the Lutz Cemetery in Western Adair County. Military graveside rites will be conducted by DAV Post #48, VFW Post #2508 and MacDougall-Lowe Post #20 American Legion.

Arthur married his first wife, Cora Irene Foster, on November 1, 1934 in Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri and they had one son, William "Bill" Thompson. Arthur and Cora were divorced.

Arthur married his second wife Margaret Esther Teater Walls-Brassfield on February 13, 1940 in Kirksville, Adair County, Missouri.

Edna Mae Hyatt was Arthur's third wife. They were married February 24, 1944 in Tyler, Texas. Edna and Arthur are buried beside each other in the Lutz cemetery, Adair County, Missouri.

Arthur married his fourth wife, Anna Mildred Cunningham Burch on June 30, 1990 in Atlanta, Macon County, Missouri. He was 76 and Mildred was 77.
