Betty Jean Peters was born April 12, 1935, in Geneva, Kane County, Illinois, the daughter of Leroy David "Roy" and Gladys Marie (Skeel) Peters.

Betty Jean married Harold David "Hal" Guerra on November 1, 1952, in Corrinth, Alcorn County, Mississippi. Hal was born June 4, 1934, in Oak Park, Cook County, Illinois, the son of David John and Gesmonda "Jennie" (Desideri) Guerra. They had two sons and three daughters.

Harold died September 12, 1994, in Leland, LaSalle County, Illinois. Betty Jean died July 17, 2004, in Aurora, Kane County, Illinois. Following is a transcription of Betty Jean's obituary:

Betty Jean Peters Guerra

Betty Jean Guerra, 69, of Sandwich, IL, passed away on Saturday, July 17, 2004 at Rush-Copley Medical Center in Aurora, IL. She was born on April 12, 1935 in Geneva IL, the daughter of LeRoy and Gladys (Skeil) Peters.

Mrs. Guerra was united in marriage on November 1, 1952 in Corinth, MS to her former husband, Mr. Harold David Guerra, the father of her five children, Mark, Kim, Lizabeth, Lorry and Doug. Betty was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and aunt who will be deeply missed by her family and many friends.

Mrs. Guerra, for several years, attended the Waterman Bible Church in Waterman, IL. She was employed at one time by the Burlington-Northern Railroad. For over 49 years, Betty enjoyed breeding boxers. She was a former President of the Midwest Boxer Club. Betty was also a member of both the Illinois Harness Association and the U. S. Trotting Horse Association.

She is survived by her five children, nineteen grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; her brother, David as well as many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her former husband, Harold Guerra; her sister, Doris McGill; her brother Danny Lee Peters; and by several beloved dog companions.

Funeral services will beheld at 10:00 A.M. on Wednesday, July 21, 2004 at Bethany Lutheran Church, 235 East Lundy Lane, Leland, IL with Pastor Daniel Bowman officiating. Interment will follow in the Leland Cemetery, Leland, ID.
