The Oklahoman, Tuesday, Nov 10, 1959:
A. L. Jeffrey, Oklahoma City municipal counselor for nearly 25 years, died Monday in Baptist Hospital following a five-day illness complicated by a heart condition.

Jeffrey, 69, 5705 N. Virginia, became ill while working last Tuesday. After being referred to a heart specialist, he suffered a heart attack Wednesday in his home and was admitted to the hospital. His condition appeared to have improved early Sunday. However, he suffered a second heart attack later Sunday.

A native Texan, he was born Oct 14, 1890 at McMahon in Caldwell County. In 1916 he first came to Oklahoma to work in the legal department of an oil company in Tulsa, following graduation with a law degree from the University of Texas. He was named Oklahoma City Counselor in 1937, entering a storm legal department faced with "hundreds" of pollution and title suits.

At various times since then, Jeffrey had served a city manager in addition to his counselor's responsibilities. He entered the army in 1947 while living at Wewoka. After his discharge in 1919, he practiced in Pawhuska before his appointment to a supreme court commission. He resigned after three years serving there to accept a post in the legal department of the Indian Territory Illumination Co.

He began practice in Oklahoma City in 1930. He was past president of the Oklahoma Municipal League. He was a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association and the First Presbyterian Church.

Services are set for 10 am Wednesday in the First Presbyterian Church. The body will lie in state at Street & Draper until the funeral.

He is survived by his wife, Ruth; two daughters, Joann of the home; and Mrs Lawrence McMillin, 3221 N. Virginia; two brothers, Lewis, Amarillo; and Jim, Austin; two sisters, Mrs Dave Tiller, Luling, TX; and Olive of Beeville, TX; and two grandchildren.
