Lenoir, NC- Mr. Grady Abraham Barlowe, age 97, of Lenoir, passed away Friday, September 14, 2012 at Caldwell Hospice and Palliative in Lenoir. Born October 2, 1914 in Caldwell County, Mr. Barlowe was a son of the late Rufus Lindsey and Lundia Hodges Barlowe and the husband of the late Ruth Tuttle Barlowe.
Other than his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by 3 brothers, Paul Barlowe, Stuart Barlowe, Marion Barlowe; one sister, Alma B. Huntley and one Great-Granddaughter, Abbigail Ruth Isenhour.
He was a charter member of the United Presbyterian Church and retired from Singer Furniture in 1978. Mr. Barlowe loved working in his woodshop and working on his farm. He was an avid horseman and enjoyed his horse riding friends.
Mr. Barlowe is survived by 3 children, Patsy Curtis and husband Nick; Robert Barlowe and Maurice Barlowe and wife Carolyn, all of Lenoir; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Suddreth of Winston-Salem; 5 Grandchildren, 13 Great-Grandchildren and 2 Great-Great Grandchildren.
A celebration of Mr. Barlowe's life will be held 2:00 PM Monday, September 17, 2012 at United Presbyterian Church with Reverend Steve Austin officiating. Burial will follow in Blue Ridge Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends at United Presbyterian Church on Monday from 12:30 until 2:00 PM, prior to the service.
Pallbearers will be: Hal McDaris, Ronald Greer, Greg Mosley, Chris Barlowe, J.C. Knight and Ken Barlowe. Honorary Pallbearers will be: Men of United Presbyterian Church, Fred Pierce, Barry Perry and Rocky Townsend.
