Rites for Jap Bowman, 81, Held Wednesday at Albany Jap Bowman, 81, longtime resident of the Berlin vicinity and father of Gentry county's sheriff, Everett (Soger) Bowman, died Monday at a St. Joseph hospital where he had been a patient less than a week. His funeral and burial were held Wednesday at Albany. Mr. Bowman's health had been failing perceptibly the last two years or more, but he had been considered dangerously ill only the last two weeks. He had been a patient in the Gentry County Memorial hospital at Albany a few days before being transferred to the St. Joseph hospital. William Jasper Bowman was born on a farm west of McFall Sept. 6, 1878, a son of James P. and Margaret Bowman. In 1901he married Miss Maggie French and they moved to Fort Scott, Kans., where he was employed in railroad work a few years. They returned to Gentry County in 1910 and had lived on their farm on Hickory Creek, two miles north of Berlin, since that time. Mr. and Mrs. Bowman reared five sons and two daughters all of whom survive. They are Sheriff Bowman of Albany, the Rev. Welbern Bowman of Grandview, Mo., Dan Bowman of Albany, Alpha and Harold Bowman and Mrs. Leo Williams of Parkville, Mo., and Mrs. Martin Kellam of Turney, Mo. Surviving also are his widow and two sisters, Mrs. Hattie Cox and Miss Elizabeth Bowman, both of Fort Scott, Kas. A twin brother, Toll Bowman died in 1952 and a sister, Mrs. Robert Cornett, died in 1943.
