Orin H. Hardenbrook
Orin H. Hardenbrook, 94, died Saturday, Nov. 29, 1997 at a Caldwell care center.
A public graveside service will be held at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, 1997 at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Caldwell with Kurt Hardenbrook officiating. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Dec. 6, 1997 at the Church of the Brethren, Nampa with Pastor Jim Hardenbrook officiating. Services are under the direction of Dakan Funeral Chapel, Caldwell and Alsip Funeral Chapel, Nampa.
Mr. Hardenbrook was born Feb.27, 1903 in Pierre, S. Dakota to Sheldon and Pearl Hardenbrook, the first of nine children. Orin was raised and educated in South Dakota, California and Arizona. He married Oleta Clarkson when they were both 18 years old and their special marriage lasted nearly 75 years and survived 65 moves. Mr. Hardenbrook was a cow-puncher, professional cowboy and Quarterhorse breeder for over 60 years. He also served as a Pastor, Evangelist, College President and Church leader for nearly fifty years.
During his ministry, Orin planted 26 new churches and founded Boise Bible College. For 27 years, he preached Easter Sunrise Services on horseback in three different states. The Quarterhorse Digest was founded, edited and published for several years by him, as well as many articles, stories and artwork submitted and published by various local and national papers and journals. Orin also believed young people should have good horses and gave away many stud services to the 4-H groups around Canyon and Ada counties.
Surviving him are three of his children, Margie Mulkey and her husband, Charley of Boise, Don Hardenbrook and his wife, Dorothy of Caldwell and Gary Hardenbrook and his wife, Linda of Latham, Kansas; 15 grandchildren; and 23 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Oleta; two children, Dot and Jimmy; and one grandchild.
Orin had three great loves in his life, Almighty God and His Son Jesus Christ, his wife, Oleta, and Quarter-horses (not necessarily in that order). His amazing energy allowed him to excel in the relationships of each love. We, as Dad's and Grandpa's family, offer our thanks to the Boise Christian Retirement Home and the Caldwell Care Center for his special care.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Orin's name to the Boise Bible College; or the Boise Christian Retirement Home.
Friends may call at Dakan Funeral Chapel in Caldwell from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday evening.
