Mary Walters Dowless Blackburn, 86, passed away peacefully Saturday, September 15, 2012 at Lake Park Nursing Center. She was born July 27, 1926 in Anson County to the late Marion Lester and Addie Tucker Walters. The Walters family moved to Abottsburg, Bladen County, NC shortly after her birth.
She married Junie Dowless, son of William Ben and Mary Julia Dowless in 1942 and was blessed with four children. Mary and Junie were divorced in 1961.
She is preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Clarence Edward (C.E.) Blackburn.
She is survived by her sons, Bobby Dowless Sr., and William Dowless (Patricia); daughters Judy D. Spears (Julius), and Paula D. Jones (Keith)and stepdaughter Rita B.French(Gary).
Mary was blessed with 16 grandchildren and 32 great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, September 18, 2012 at Gordon Funeral Chapel in Monroe, NC with burial at Lakeland Memorial Park.
