Gail Elizabeth Dent-Kolbenstetter, 60, died peacefully at her home in Spotsylvania County following a courageous fight with cancer.

Gail was born July 5, 1949, to the late William A. "Junior" Dent, and Gertrude Maddox-Dent. She lived a majority of her life in Cherry Hill in the Dumfries area. Her family was from a long line of watermen who made their living from fishing and hunting along the Potomac River and Chesapeake Bay.

Her father, Junior Dent, built and operated the original Rivershore Restaurant in Dumfries, where the whole family worked.

Gail was a voracious reader and loved to garden. She was known for her acerbic wit, and would "call 'em as she saw 'em." She did not suffer fools lightly, but she would give the shirt off her back to her friends and those she loved.

Gail was an accomplished hair stylist. Most recently she worked as a cashier at Todds Tavern Market.

Gail is survived by her daughter, Sherry Lamberger; her son, Robert Kolbenstetter; two brothers, William "Tody" Dent and Scott Dent; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family will receive friends at Mountcastle Funeral Home, 4143 Dale Blvd., Dale City on Wednesday, Aug. 5, from 6 to 8 p.m. A funeral will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Aug. 6, at the funeral home. Internment will follow at the Tacey Family cemetery. A reception will follow.
