WILLIAM NOEL "BILL" JAMES
November 19, 1911 ~ February 24, 1960

William N. "Bill" James, 48, former Broken Bow Chief of Police, died at his home at 6:15 p.m. Wednesday.

Mr. James had returned home from Muskogee Veterans hospital at about 1 p.m. Wednesday.

Born November 19, 1911 at Oak Hill, he had resided in McCurtain county all his life. He was a veteran of World War II.

Mr. James served Broken Bow as Chief of Police for seven years. He had been a mechanic for the local Ford Motor Co. and following his retirement from the police force, bought a farm east of town where he lived before moving back to Broken Bow.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby; three step-sons, Verdo and Douglas Dee Hooker, both of Broken Bow; and Harold Hooker, Fox; his mother, Mrs. Kitty Benton, Broken Bow; four grandchildren; and several brothers and sisters.

Services were pending at press time.

W.N. "BILL" JAMES BURIED SATURDAY

Funeral services for William N. "Bill" James, 48, were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at the First Baptist church of Broken Bow with the Rev. W. M. Piland officiating.

James died at 8:15 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 24, at his home here.

Born November 19, 1911 at Oak Hill, he had lived in this county all his life. He was a veteran of World War II and had served as Broken Bow Chief of Police for several years.

Survivors include his widow; three step-sons, Verdo Hooker, Broken Bow; Harold Hooker, Fox, and Douglas D. Hooker, Broken Bow; his mother, Mrs. Kattie Benton, Broken Bow; one sister, Mrs. Johnnie Henderson, Nevada; two half-sisters, Mrs. Ola Hardin, Shreveport, La., and Mrs. Florence McKinney, Balersfield, Calif., and four grandchildren.

Pallbearers were Earl Currence, Tut Wood, James Deaver, Mack Bruton, Bud Gilbreath and Rushing Rhoden.

Burial in Holly Creek cemetery was under the direction of Coffey funeral home.
