John P. Roenitz, the former manager, president and board chairman of Sheboygan (United) Savings and Loan Association, died Thursday at the Sheboygan Retirement Home at the age of 80.

Mr. Roenitz had been a resident of the retirement home for the past six years.

Mr. Roenitz began his career with Sheboygan Savings and Loan Association in 1922, joining his father William C. Roenitz, who was then secretary-manager of the business.

Named manager of the association in 1946, Mr. Roenitz saw the savings and loan association through a major growth and transition period to the point where it was expanded and re-named United Savings and Loan in 1971.

Mr. Roenitz was elected president of the association in 1969. Retiring from that position a year later, he was then named chairman of the board.

During his career, he served on several advisory boards associated with the savings and loan business, including the constitution, insurance and legislative committees of the United States Savings and Loan League.

Mr. Roenitz was also a member of Sheboygan Elks Lodge 299.

Born September 6, 1902 in Sheboygan, he was the son of William C. and Wanda Pantzer Roenitz.

He attended local schools and Northwestern Military Academy at Lake Geneva.

On September 7, 1932, he married Mary Juntz of Sheboygan at the family residence. Mrs. Roenitz died March 1, 1975.
