Born in Ellice Township, Perth County, Henry was baptised Georg Heinrich Wicke on January 28, 1858 as recorded at 1st St. John's Lutheran Church, Seebach's Hill, Ontario, Canada.

In 1879, Henry and his parents and siblings moved to Carrick Township of Bruce County, Ontario.

In 1882, by way of his son Henry, August purchased Lot 19 from Jacob Brill. August died eight years later. Henry and his mother, Dorothea kept the farm for four more years, selling it in 1894 to purchase Lot 22 instead, but only held onto that lot for two years.

By the 1895 Census, Henry was living in Virden, Manitoba and working as a mason. In the 1916 Census he is listed as an employee of John Spooner and living on Wellington Street, Brandon, Manitoba.

Henry married Jean Spratt on February 26, 1918 in Brandon.
