Marie A. Hoagland, 79, of Marshalls Creek, passed away on Wednesday, Dec. 27, at home. She was the wife of the late Edwin Hoagland, who passed away in 2003.

Born on March 31, 1927, in East Stroudsburg, she was the daughter of the late Clarence and Freda Van Why Smith. She was a resident of Monroe County all her life.

She was employed at the Art Metals Defense Plant in Stroudsburg, Grief Brothers, and retired from the Holland Thread Company after 10 years of service.

She was a member of St. Mark's Lutheran Church in Minisink Hills.

She enjoyed dancing when she was younger, collecting centennial quarters, and she loved to spend time with her granddaughter Jessica.

On May 29, 1944, she received an award from the Army Air Forces Aircraft Warning Service Reserve for being a loyal and faithful volunteer. This award was given to her for participating in the warning service and keeping track of aircraft flying over Pennsylvania.

She is survived by a daughter, Jacqueline Vandercar and her husband, Robert, of Marshalls Creek; a granddaughter, Jessica Jones and her husband, Kevin, of Marshalls Creek; a great-grandson, Kyle Jones of Marshalls Creek; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Glenn Smith, and by sisters Evelyn Strunk and Shirley Albertson.
