Mary was born in Warren County, Ohio, the daughter of Henry Stites. She married John Lackey on 10 July 1836 in Warren County, Ohio. They had two children together: Charles R. Lackey (1837-1881) and Margaret Permelia Lackey [Ashton]. John Lackey apparently died about 1844, and Mary Watts Stites Lackey married widower William Thacker on 24 September 1844 in Warren County, Ohio. William had seven children from his previous marriage, and he and Mary had five more children together: Henry Stites Thacker (1845-1902), Quincy Adams Thacker (1849-1928), Anna Thacker (1851-1925), Etta Mary Thacker (1853-1926) and Callie Thacker (1858-1924). The Thacker family, minus some of the older children, moved to Grand Traverse County, Michigan in 1862. Mary died in East Bay township from lung disease.
