Booneville – Marie Hatfield Simmons, 78, passed away from lung cancer on Monday, Aug. 29, 2011, in Morris, Ill. She was born Jan. 4, 1933, in Booneville. She married James Simmons Sr. on Oct. 31, 1951. They had five children. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a member of Ashley Road Baptist Church in Morris, Ill. She was a Godly woman who loved to share God's word with everyone she met. She enjoyed shopping, going to church, and being with family and friends. She never met a stranger.
Funeral services were Sept. 2, 2011, at the Booneville Funeral Home Chapel with burial in Liberty Memorial Garden.
Survivors included four children, Patty Layne (Rex), Betty Binder (Eric), Donna Ristich (Ray) and James Simmons Jr. (Cheryl), all of Morris, Ill.; two sisters, Peggy Sloan (John) of Algoma and Louise Serrano of Booneville; a brother, Bobby Hatfield (Dot) of Plantersville; a sister-in-law, Margie Hatfield of Booneville; 13 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James Simmons, on May 27, 1993; a daughter, Lisa Marie Simmons; her parents, Pardon and Birdie Hatfield; and two brothers, Van Hatfield and J.C. Hatfield.
