Mr. William Adair of Lurich, Giles county, Virginian, died at the home of his brother, Mr. John A. Adair, in Narrows, Va., at about 9 o'clock last Monday night, July 9, 1928 , at the age of 84 years. Mr. Adair was a retired farmer and was widely known throughout this section of the Virginias. He was a Confederate veteran and is believed to have been the last surviving member of Vawter's battalion. He enlisted March 24 , 1861, his eighteenth birthday and served faithfully until his capture at Winchester, Va., on Sept 19, 1864. Mr. Adair had never married. He is survived by two sisters, Mrs. E. A. Gooch of Hinton; Mrs . M. J. Dunn of Wilmington, N.C.,; and four brothers, Messrs. Robert W. Adair of Cashmere, W.Va., Hugh T. Ada of Lunch; John A. Adair of Narrows and J. Arthur Adair of Rocksboro, N.C. Funeral services were held at Narrows at 3 o'clock yesterday afternoon and interment made in the family cemetery at Lurich.
