Roy May, 89, formerly of 625 E. Spring St., St. Marys, and a resident of Otterbein St. Marys Retirement Community, died at 9:15 a.m. Aug. 24, 2004, at Joint Township District Memorial Hospital, St. Marys.
He was born Jan. 1, 1915, in New Knoxville, to John and Bertha Wierwille May. On Sept. 20, 1947, he married Rosalinda Berning who survives.
Also surviving are a son, Jerry of Rock Spring, Texas; a brother, James (Martha) of St. Marys; and a brother-in-law, Robert Schwabero, also of St. Marys.
Deceased are four brothers, Wilson, Victor, Robert and Elmer, and a sister, Mildred Schwabero.
He retired from Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co., St. Marys, after 38 years, served in the Civilian Conservation Corps during the Depression and served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was a member of St. Paul's United Church of Christ, Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 767, Loyal Order of Moose and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9289, all of St. Marys. He won numerous state and national tournaments as a left-handed golfer and was instrumental in starting junior golf leagues in Minster and St. Marys.
Services are 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Miller-Long & Folk Funeral Home, St. Marys, the Rev. Patricia Minnick officiating. Burial will follow at Pilger Ruhe Cemetery, New Knoxville.
Calling is 4-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
