John was the son of William and Barbara Cline Mason and the husband of Mary Ann Miller. He was survived by children Adam, Moses, William, Elizabeth Frank, George, Henry, Mary Ann Burkholder and Catherine Rader, and many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. A brother, Henry, survived, and probably other of his siblings also.
He was predeceased by daughters Susannah in 1847 and Margaret in 1852.
