Rulon Thomas "Tom" Hegwood was a Baptist minister and Pastor of New Prospect Baptist Church in Grant Parish, Louisiana, at the time of his death.

He served in the U. S. Armed Forces during World War II. He married Mildred O'Mera "Sue" Tison and they had two sons: Billy Wayne Hegwood (Judy) and Rev. Thomas Michael Hegwood (Gail)

Prior to accepting the position at New Prospect, Tom had pastored churches in several other areas including El Paso, Texas, Crystal Springs, Mississippi, and Rodessa, Louisiana.

He was survived by his wife and sons; five grandchildren; four sisters-in-law, four brothers-in-law and numerous nephews and nieces.
