The Close of an Honorable Life - Sad News From Washington
Thomas L. Nesmith, father of L.G. Nesmith, cashier of the First National Bank of the city, died in Washington last Saturday. The deceased was President of the Bank of San Diego during twelve years ending in 1883.
Mr. Nesmith visited San Jose for several months during the winter of 1878-9 and during the two years from 1881 to 1883 he resided here with his daughter, Mrs. General Greely and his son L.G. Nesmith.
His wife, Maria Gale Nesmith, died at San Diego. She was the daughter of the late Anthony Rutgers Gale, and a native of Natchez, Miss. His remains will be brought to San Diego for burial beside his wife. Beside his son in this city and his daughter, Mrs. Greely,, he leaves a son, Otto A. Nesmith, an attorney-at-law, residing in Minnesota.
