A cellist, he earned a Doctorate of Musical Arts from the University of Arizona. Barry was a member of the American Federation of Musicians, Local 369 and the founder of the Las Vegas business, DeBarry Packaging.
Barry is survived by his wife of 35 years Mary Flynn Barkan and their son Seth Barkan of Las Vegas; from a previous marriage daughters Barbara (Shawn) Neal and Robyn (Ron) Markowicz; and son Gregory (Jennifer Cerda) Barkan, all of Las Vegas; grandchildren Paislie Neal, Mollie Neal, Riley Neal, Rachel Markowicz, Ivy Markowicz, and Shiloh Markowicz, all of Las Vegas; aunt Cecilia Barkan Brodie of Melville, New York; brothers Morris (Sharon) Barkan and Gerald (Kathy) Barkan, both of Tucson, Arizona and sisters-in-law, Marna (Bruce) Williams and Teresa (David) Harrington both of Yuma Arizona.
A graveside service will be held at 11:00AM on Sunday, September 16 at Palm Cemetery, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., Las Vegas, 89123.
In lieu of of flowers, checks in Barry's memory may be made to the Gordon Epperson Endowed Cello Scholarship at the University of Arizona Foundation. Checks should be made out to the UA Foundation/Gordon Epperson Scholarship Endowment and sent to UA Foundation, Scholarship Development Office, 1111 N. Cherry Ave., Tucson, AZ 85721.
