David Allen, 54, of Athens, died December 1, 2001. Born in Sayre, March 9, 1947 the son of the late Dr. Wayne Allen and his mother Katherine Powers Allen. He was a 1963 graduate of Athens High School, also, graduated from the Valley Forge Military Academy Junior College in 1967, attended the University of Miami from 1968-1969 and graduated from Simmons School of Mortuary Science in 1975. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War, attached to NATO Forces. He retired in 1999 from the Ingersoll Rand Company after 22 years of employment. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He was a member of the South Mountain Hunting Camp. He was predeceased by his father, Dr. Wayne Allen, in 1977. He is survived by his mother Katherine Powers Allen of Athens; sisters, Rebecca Allen of Denver, CO and Melanie Allen of Stanford, CT; his sisters and brothers-in-law; Mary Lyn and Richard Ballantine of Durango, CO; Barbara Allen and David Uhl of Palm Beach Garden, FL; his dearest friend Sherri Adams of Elmira, NY and her children, Rob and Melissa Adams; seven nieces and nephews and his beloved dog, Taz. Family and friends may call Tuesday, Dec. 4 from 2 to 4 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. at the Lowery Funeral Home, 225 South Main St., Athens. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home Wednesday at 2 p.m., with the Rev. Benjamin Lentz, Pastor of the Church of the Redeemer officiating.
