Joann Jax, age 67 of Mayer, died Saturday September 8, 2012 at her residence.

Memorial Mass of Christian Burial held 11:00 AM Wednesday September 12, 2012 at St. Boniface Catholic Church (4025 Main Street) in St. Bonifacius with Fr. Joseph Gallatin as officiant. Visitation 4-8 PM Tuesday at Johnson Funeral Home (141 E. First St.) in Waconia and also one hour prior to the mass at the church. Interment in the Island Lake Cemetery of Puposky.

Joann Francis Jax was born July 11, 1945 the daughter of Clifford and Betty (Harrop) McKim in Chicago, IL. As a young girl, Joann's family moved to northern Minnesota. After graduating from the Bemidji High School, she moved to St. Cloud to earn a degree in nursing. On March 15, 1969 Joann was united in marriage with Robert Jax at St. John's Catholic Church of Johnsburg. The couple had made their home in Minneapolis and Bloomington before moving to Mayer in 1975. Joann had worked at many nursing homes over her career, including those in Delano, Waconia, Watertown, Buffalo and Excelsior. When she retired from nursing, she enjoyed working with the young children as an aid for the Watertown-Mayer school district.

Joann enjoyed baking, cooking, playing cards and the dice game Farkle. Joanne and Bob liked traveling around Minnesota, the United States, China and Japan. She loved working in her flower gardens. Joanne cherished her grandchildren and lunch outings with family and friends.

Joann is preceded in death by her parents Clifford and Betty McKim, grandchildren Amanda Jax and Hannah Jax, son-in law Ronald Haag, father-in-law and mother-in-law Gregory and Irene Jax, brother-in-law Terry Halverson, sister-in-law Joanne Heimer.

Joann is survived by her husband of 43 years Robert Jax of Mayer; daughters and sons-in-law Leah Elston of Waukesha, WI, Jenny Haag of Mayer, Julie and Brian Kelpe of Lake Lillian; son and daughter-in-law Jason and Ashley Jax of Shakopee; grandchildren Taylor Elston, Jake Elston, Claire Elston, Bryan Haag, Madison Haag, Grace Haag, Jonathan Kelpe, Sarah Suzy Kelpe; sisters and brothers-in-law Kathy Halvorson of Roseau, Phyllis and Dan St. Peter of Bemidji, Betty and Richard Weiers of Monticello; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Eugene Heimer of Adams, Ken and Sandy Jax of Apple Valley, Dave and Nancy Jax of Bloomington, John and Cindy Jax of Adams, Chuck and Charlene Jax of Bloomington; nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends.
