DOROTHY WOOD

Dorothy Wood of Lake Oswego, a longtime employee of The Oregonian who had been executive secretary to Fred A. Stickel, president and publisher of The Oregonian, for almost 12 years until her retirement in 1979, died of a heart attack Thursday in a Tualatin hospital.

At her request, no service will be held. Mrs. Wood was 76.

She was born Aug. 7, 1914, in Portland. Her maiden name was Hiersche. She attended Montavilla Grade School and was a graduate of Washington High School. She attended Behnke-Walker Business College and married Brenholt Wood on Feb. 23, 1940, in Portland.

In May 1934, she began her 45-year career with The Oregonian, working part time in the circulation department until September, when she became a full-time office clerk. She was promoted to circulation secretary for L.J. Cascadden on Dec. 15, 1941.

Mrs. Wood was named executive secretary to Fred A. Stickel in December 1967 and served in that capacity until her retirement in August 1979. After her retirement, Mrs. Wood divided her time between Rancho Mirage, Calif., and her home in Lake Oswego.

Her husband was assistant circulation director for The Oregonian at the time of his death in July 1978. He had worked for the newspaper for almost 45 years.

The Woods were a company couple. They met at the newspaper and traveled to and from work together for 44 years until Mr. Wood's final illness.

There are no survivors.

Entombment will be in Riverview Abbey Mausoleum.
