Four fishermen on the fishing vessel Lady Cecelia have been missing off the Long Beach Peninsula since early Saturday.

Jason Edward "Jay" Bjaranson, 38, of Warrenton, died Saturday, March 10, 2012, in a fishing accident in the Pacific Ocean.

He was born April 19, 1973, in Oakland, Calif., to Sonja Lee and Robert Paul Bjaranson. His mother survives, residing in Hammond. His father preceded him in death.

Mr. Bjaranson was a commercial fisherman.

He was a member of First Lutheran Church of Astoria.

Family members said he was an avid motocross rider and fan of the sport, and also enjoyed hunting. He was a member of the Warrenton High School Sports Hall of Fame for wrestling.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by three brothers, Jeff Bjaranson of Astoria, Adam Bjaranson of Beaverton and Ryan "Boomer" Bjaranson of Lake Oswego; a sister, Melissa Thornton of Hammond; a daughter, Kylie Bjaranson of Astoria; a son, Talon Bjaranson of Warrenton; a partner, Amy Mallory of Warrenton; three nieces, Natara Bjaranson of Carlsbad, Calif., Ava Thornton of Hammond and Holly Bjaranson of Lake Oswego; and two nephews, Ashton Bjaranson of Zephyr Hills, Fla., and Ryker Thornton Jr. of Hammond.

A memorial will be held at noon Saturday, March 24, at Warrenton High School, 1700 S.E. Main Ave. in Warrenton, followed by a reception at the Warrenton Community Center, 170 S.W. Third St. in Warrenton.

Memorial contributions for his children may be made to the Melissa Thornton/Jay Bjaranson Memorial Fund at any Wells Fargo Bank location.
