Barbara Hunt Collie, 89, of Neosho, passed away Tuesday morning, Sept. 4, 2012 in Neosho. She was born July 19, 1923 in Independence, MO to Russell W. and Mabel Jones Hunt. Barbara had been a resident of Neosho since the family moved there in 1937. She graduated from Neosho High School in 1941, attended Stephens College and the University of Arkansas, where she obtained a Master's Degree in psychology. She did post-graduate work at the University of Arkansas and Beloit College in Wisconsin. Barbara enjoyed teaching psychology for 25 years at Crowder College. During that time, she served on many boards, including the Crowder College Foundation Board; Facilities Corporation Board; Library Board and the Longwell Museum Board. She was president of the Crowder Faculty Association and was named Teacher of the Year at Crowder. She was a member of the New Century Study Club; 50-year member of Chapter JO P.E.O.; Presbyterian Women's Association; Delta Kappa Gamma honorary teachers' sorority; Mental Health Association of MO and served on the Newton County Mental Health Board. She was a Christian and an active member of First Presbyterian Church of Neosho, where she taught an adult class and was a choir member for 45 years. She was chosen to receive the Lifetime Presbyterian Women's Award in 2004. Barbara served as president of Southwest Lime Company; her family was active in the early development of Ozark Terminal, Inc. While she was active in many activities and organizations, Barbara's main interests and joys consisted of her faith, family and her friends. Barbara will be particularly missed by her primary care givers, Darlene Franklin, Sandra Smith and Jana Mittag as well as her daily visitor during her illness, Bill Martz. She is preceded in death by her parents and the father of her children, William R. Collie, III. Barbara is survived by her children, Carolyn Read of Highlands Ranch, CO and William R. Collie, IV, MD of Benton, AR; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. Other survivors include her aunt, Evelyn Jones and cousins, Tom Hurlburt of Neosho and Barbara McClanahan of St. Louis.
