Mrs. Lorene Harris Bankston, age 79, Johnson City, passed away Wednesday, February 8, 2012 at her residence following a lengthy illness. Mrs. Bankston was a native of Senoia, GA and the only daughter of the late James Render and Bessie Couch Harris. She had resided in Unicoi County for the past 8 years.
Other than her parents, Mrs. Bankston was preceded in death by her 19 year old son, Warren Keith Bankston, who passed away December 11, 1970. She was also preceded in death by nine brothers: Wallace, Houston, Melvin, J.P., Owen, Douglas, Howard, David and Dennis Harris, who was killed in action on the USS Arizona at Pearl Harbor, and his body entombed on the the USS Arizona.
Mrs. Bankston is survived by her loving husband of 62 years, Norman Bankston; one son, Michael Bankston and wife Cindy, Gresham, OR; one daughter, Sheryl Kaye Russell and husband, Alvin, Hendersonville, NC; two brothers: Render Eutis Harris and wife Joyce, Cummings, GA; Roger Harris, Griffin, GA; numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
It was Mrs. Bankston wishes to be cremated. A graveside service will be announced at a future date and interment will follow in the Willamette National Cemetery, Happy Valley, Oregon.
