Mr. Pope retired as a self-employed carpenter, painter and paperhanger. He entered Little Sisters of the Poor in 1952. During his 20 years at the home, he was responsible for all the carpentry work there and operated a basement workshop. At times, he made wood items to sell at Little Sisters parties and fund-raising events. Among the items he made were dollhouses, beds, wagons and rocking chairs. He also made bird houses, some of them with four and six rooms, feeding stations, game tables and chairs.
Mr. Pope lived by a saying, "A life used well lasts well."
He was 88 years old.
