" When you lose someone you love, you gain an angel you know."

This page was created in memory of my beloved father, William (Bill) John Shellhamer Jr.(by his daughter Jennifer)

Bill was born on Oct. 24, 1957, the son of William and Alice Cameron Shellhamer Sr., and passed away on Nov. 13, 2011 after a year and a half long battle with lung cancer.

Bill loved to work on cars (twist wrenches as he called it) and spent 25 years as a mechanic, working at Century Tire Co., Sebago Lake Garage, and G&K Motors. There wasn't a car Bill couldn't fix. Bill would also spend hours of his free time helping his friends out with work that needed to be done on their cars, for next to nothing. He was always willing to reach out a helping hand to a friend in need.

Bill was a well-liked man. Everywhere Bill went, he ran into someone he knew. Bill had many friends who thought the world of him. Amongst his best were: Georgie, Eric, Ted, John, Seth, and Wayne.

Bill was a loving and wonderful father. Bill loved his daughter Jennifer immensely from the moment he looked at her on the day she was born. Bill crawled into the hospital bed and held her close as if he had been the one who gave birth to her. Throughout Jennifer's school years, Bill never missed a concert, ball game, parent-teacher conference, or her graduation. Jennifer and Bill's bond was close...and although they had a few bumps in the road, they both always knew how much they loved each other.

Bill was also a wonderful husband to his wife Tina. They spent a great deal of time together going on scenic rides, going out to breakfast, and going yardsaling. They were married on August 30th, 2003. Anyone could see how much they both loved and enjoyed each other. They spent almost 10 happy and wonderful years together.

Bill enjoyed listening to all music and was an avid listener of the Big Deal on Sunday mornings. After the Big Deal, you could find him at the Dunstan Schoolhouse Restaurant for the all-you-can eat breakfast buffet. He enjoyed riding his bike around town and going to visit friends and family while on his regular scenic rides. Bill also loved his cat, Sassy, who passed away August of 2011.

Bill was predeceased by his father. Survivors include his wife, Tina Shellhamer of Old Orchard Beach; daughter, Jennifer Raymond and her husband Alan of Standish; step-son, Andrew Hopkins and his wife Renay of Farmingdale; two grandchildren, Justyn and Erika Wilson also of Farmingdale; his mother, Alice Shellhamer; sister, Cindy Maynard and her husband Henry of East Holden, and five other brothers and sisters.

"What Cancer Cannot Do"

Cancer is so limited...

It cannot cripple love.

It cannot shatter hope.

It cannot corrode faith.

It cannot eat away peace.

It cannot destroy confidence.

It cannot kill friendship.

It cannot shut out memories.

It cannot silence courage.

It cannot reduce eternal life.

It cannot quench the Spirit.

Don't think of him as gone away

his journey's just begun,

life holds so many facets

this earth is only one.

Just think of him as resting

from the sorrows and the tears

in a place of warmth and comfort

where there are no days and years.

Think how he must be wishing

that we could know today

how nothing but our sadness

can really pass away.

And think of him as living

in the hearts of those he touched…

for nothing loved is ever lost

and he was loved so much.
