Fidel was born in St. Johns, Arizona to Lorenzo and Maria Josefa Mondragon Baca. He was the youngest of 11 children. His siblings are: Matronia, Bonafacio, Ygenitre, Elias, Hilario, Ramona, Benito, Antonio Lorenzo, Evaristo and Rosa.
He married Virginia in 1920 in Gallup, New Mexico and soon after their son Raymond was born. They moved to California where their son Richard and daughter Vivian were born in Los Angeles.
Fidel was preceded in death by his parents and he passed away in Los Angeles at the age of 47.
