"Evan Asbury"

"A funeral for Evan "Jim" Asbury will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Gateway Little Chapel of the Chimes. Mr. Asbury died of complications from Alzheimer's disease Sunday in a Portland care center. He was 81."

"He was born on May 29, 1908, in Waterbury, Neb., and moved to Oregon in 1935. He had lived in the Gateway area since 1949."

"Mr. Asbury married the former Shirley Weiche in Vancouver, Wash., on Sept. 10, 1948. He taught welding in Portland shipyards during World War II. Mr. Asbury worked for Bend-Portland Trucking and Transwestern Express Co. for 20 years before retiring in 1971."

"He was affiliated with the Teamsters union for 37 years and was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 132.
Survivors include his wife; son, James of Gresham, brothers, Frank of Allen, Neb., and Wesley of Sioux City, Iowa; sisters, Mary Potter of Seaside and Dorothy Buxton of Viroqua, Wis.; and three granddaughters."

"The family suggests that remembrances be donations to the Alzheimer's Disease and Related Disorders Association, 1015 N.W. 22nd Ave., Portland, Ore. 97210."

"Disposition will be entombment in the Rose City Cemetery."
