George joined the Back Creek Quakers in North Carolina on 27 July 1793. He was disowned for marrying out of the Unity on 27 June 1801.

George was a veteran of the War of 1812.

George appears in the 1810 census and 1815 tax list for Ashe Co., NC. The family emigrated t o Wayne Co., IN in Sept 1819. On 9 Dec 1819 he sold 90 acres of land to Henry Eller in Ash e Co., NC (Deed Book C, page 68). Two years later on 12 Sept 1821 he and his brother John took up land in Liberty Township, Henry Co., IN, and a year later on 11 Nov 1822 he took up land in Blue River Township of the same county. In 1830 George Koonse lived in Henry Co., IN (p age 59) with his wife, 4 sons, and 2 daughters. In 1840 George lived in Henry Co. (page 119 ) with his wife, 3 sons and a daughter at home. George lived in Liberty for 16 years, movin g then to a log cabin in Blue River where he lived the balance of his life.

George was a Republican in politics. He and his family belonged to the Liberty Baptist churc h in Liberty Township, Henry Co., IN where he became a trustee on 5 Nov 1827.

George emigrated to Indiana by wagon in Sept. 1819, and a few months later moved to Wayne Co . where they remained about two years. Mr. Koons then moved his family to Liberty Township, H enry Co. where he entered land bought from the Government and built a log house, residing the re for 16 years. He then sold his farm and entered 80 acres in Blue River Township and built a log cabin on the same, residing there until his death. He entered at four different time s 80 acres of Government land and at his death he owned 111 acres.

George died 25 Mar 1849 in Henry Co., IN; the date of his death by family records was 26 Ma r 1849. His will was written 15 Mar 1847 and filed, proved, and recorded in Henry County 1 2 May 1849 (Will Book C, page 66). It reads: "I, George Koons, senior, of Henry County in the State of Indiana, do make and publish this my last will and testament, hereby revoking and making void all former Wills by me at any time heretofore made.

1st. I direct that my body be decently interred and that my funeral be conducted in a manne r corresponding with my estate and situation in life, and as to such worldly estate as it has pleased God to entrust me with I dispose of the same in the following manner, to-wit: I direct first that all my just debts and funeral expenses be paid as soon after my decease as possible out of the first moneys that shall come to the hands of my Executor from any portion of my estate personal.

2nd. That my wife Mary have her support and maintenance in a decent and comfortable manner out of my Estate, and at her decease (if she should survive me) be decently interred and all h er funeral expenses paid out of my Estate.

3rd. I will and direct that each of my children both sons and daughters, except my younges t son, Peter, have each one dollar out of my estate after the decease of myself and wife.

4th. I will and bequeath unto William Harvey the whole of my personal estate in toto after t he payment of the foregoing sums.

5th. That William Harvey keep and take care of the said George Koons, senior and Mary his wife aforesaid, and that he have full authority over all my personal property from this time henceforth. In testimony whereof I, George Koons senior have hereunto set my hand and seal thi s 15th day of March in the year of our Lord, One thousand eight hundred and forty seven. And I hereby make and ordain my son Devault Koons Executor of this my last will and testament . George Koons, senior (seal) Attest: Calvin Russell, Henry Jones."

One of the settlement papers of the George's estate shows payments of $1.00 each to Main (Ma ssie) Koons, Catherine Koons (wife of William Harvey), George Koons, Henry Koons, J. R. Milli kan (husband of Martha Koons), D. Koons, Parnell Bales and wife (Elisabeth Koons), and Jaco b Harvey (husband of Alice Koons). Son Abosom was deceased and Peter denied the $1.00. Son Gaspar was not mentioned.
