LOUIS BENES

Gonzales — Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 9 at 9 a.m. from the St. James Catholic Church, Gonzales, for Louis Benes, who died suddenly in Gonzales at 2:15 p.m. Monday, February 7, 1966. The Rev. Joseph Mathey, pastor of St. James, conducted the last rites and also the short service at the funeral home at 8:45 a.m. just prior to the church services. Rosary service was conducted Tuesday night at 7:30 at the funeral home with the Rev. Mathey in charge. Mr. Benes was born in Gonzales County, November 1, 1901, the son of Michael and Josephine (Jancek) Benes, natives of Czechoslovakia. A painter in this area, he was married on December 9, 1929 to Miss Gussie Ora Schenkewitz. They had made their home at 2058 Water Street, Gonzales, for a number of years. He was a member of the St. James Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Gerald (Charlotte) Tieken, Gonzales; Mrs. Travis (Margaret) Koenning of Beeville; one son, Billy Louis Benes, Gonzales; two sisters, Miss Annie Benes, and Mrs. Frank (Mary Ella) Kuntschik, both of Gonzales; three brothers, Joe and Frank Benes of Gonzales; and Charles Benes of Pilgrim.
