Mary I. DiNinni, 87, of Swatara Township, Harrisburg, PA., passed away on Wednesday, September 5, 2012 at Life Care Hospital of Mechanicsburg in the loving arms of her granddaughter, Laura.
She was born on June 29, 1925 in Chambers Hill, Swatara Township, Harrisburg, PA., and was a daughter of the late Luther L. and Jessie M. Bowerman. She was predeceased by her husband of 65 years, Nicholas DiNinni of Rutherford Heights, PA., and was also predeceased by: her grandson Michael Shane DiNinni; two granddaughters Christa Denise DiNinni, and Sara Ann DiNinni; her sister Ethel (Bowerman) Seibert; and a brother Walter Bowerman.
Mary DiNinni is survived by her two sons, Nicholas M. DiNinni, and his wife, Cherie, of Harrisburg, PA., and Ronald V. DiNinni, and his wife, Judith, of Vero Beach, Florida. She is also survived by three granddaughters, Laura Marie DiNinni Cusumano, Jill Nicole Demmel, and April N. DiNinni; three great granddaughters, Caitlin DiNinni Parker, Ashley Sara Demmel, and Lauren Kelly Demmel; a sister, Esther Marion (Bowerman) Koppenheffer; and numerous loving nieces and nephews.
She was a member of St. Catherine Laboure Parish since its founding in 1947. In past years, she also did volunteer work on numerous Federal, State, and Local political campaigns. Mary's hobby was genealogical and historical research. She traced 20 of her ancestors to have served during the Revolutionary War, and was a former member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, Harrisburg Chapter (member 596070). She was also a published author having worked with her family to research, compile and publish five books.
Visitation will be held 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM Monday, September 10, 2012 in the Neill Funeral Home, 3501 Derry St., Harrisburg; a Prayer Service will be at 7:00 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, September 11, 2012 in St. Catherine Laboure Catholic Church, 4000 Derry St., Harrisburg. Burial will be in Resurrection Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to her church, or the Humane Society of the Harrisburg Area Inc., 7790 Grayson Rd., Harrisburg, PA. 17111.
