Joanna Dexter, daughter of Deborah (née Haskell) and Seth Dexter, was born in Pine Meadow (now called Windsor Locks), Hartford County, Connecticut.

Joanna Dexter and Horatio Clark were married reportedly in 1793 in nearby Windsor, Hartford County.

Horatio Clark formed a partnership from 1795 to 1803 with Jonathan Hunt in Bennington, Vermont. Bennington Town Clerk's Office birth records show that seven children were born there to Horatio and "Ioanni" Clark from 1797 to 1815.

No burial record found. Likely buried in Old Bennington Cemetery, where her brother, Nathaniel Dexter (1784-1832), is known to be buried.
