The funeral service for Idella A. Ludwig will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, 2012, at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, with Pastor Daniel R. Kroll officiating. A private burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Lake City.

Mrs. Ludwig, 91, of Lake City, died Sunday, Sept. 2, 2012, at Lake City Medical Center-Mayo Health System Hospital.

Idella Amelia French was born Dec. 10, 1920, in Gillford Township, Wabasha County, to Arthur and Amelia (Brunkow) French. Idella was a lifelong resident of Lake City. She graduated from Lincoln High School in Lake City in 1939.

Idella worked side-by-side with her best friend and husband of 47 years, Don Ludwig, at the Corner Grocery, which later became Ludwig's Fairway Foods. After the sale of the grocery store, they enjoyed several business ventures, always working side-by-side. In the most recent years, after retirement, they enjoyed all the fun things life has to offer.

Idella was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Lake City, was a longtime member of its Ladies Group, and was a 35-year member of the Lake City American Legion Auxiliary. She enjoyed bowling, card playing, knitting, crocheting and crafts of all kinds. Above all, she loved her family.

Idella is survived by her husband, Donald Ludwig of Lake City; one son, Thomas "Tom" (Sharon) Knaup of Maple Lake; two step-sons, Gary (Patsy) Ludwig of Frontenac and David (Debra) Ludwig of Gilbert, Ariz.; two grandchildren, Cindy (Dean) Burrington of Plymouth and Jeff (Tracy) Knaup of Gilbert, Ariz.; five great-grandchildren, Zachery, Nicole, Lukas, Jacob and Grace.

She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, Leon French and Harley French.

Family and friends may visit from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Schleicher Funeral Homes, Lake City Chapel in Lake City, and one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday.
