JOHN STONE PASSES AWAY

Services for pioneer resident to be Tuesday at 2:30 p. m.

John Stone, 82, pioneer resident passed away at 3 a. m. this morning at the University Hospital in Iowa City where he had been a patient the last two weeks. Mr. Stone had been in ailing health the last three years and seriously ill since April.

He was born in Iowa on June 10, 1856 and came to this county from Henry county 45 years ago. He was married to Jennie Adams on November 22, 1877. His wife passed away on March 29, 1936.

Mr. Stone is survived by three daughters, Mrs. Belle Huff of Poplar Bluff, Mo.; Mrs. Grace Ingham (sic. Inghram) of Davenport and Mrs. Hazel Bush of Fairfield; a son Lonnie of Fairfield rural route; and by 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

Two daughters, Mrs. Cynthia Duke and Mrs. Cora Allen preceded him in death.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday at 2:30 p.m. at Hoskins Funeral Home. Interment will be in Evergreen cemetery. Mr. Stone was a member of the Baptist church.

*Matilda Stone Whitham, who is buried in Prairie Home Cemetery at Holdrege, Nebraska. Wife of Wm. J. Whitham. Her memorial does have a headstone photo which uses age at death as 30y 6d. The date of birth on the memorial is "Apr. 20, 1855". She died on Oct. 20, 1885, so her actual date of birth may be closer to Oct. 14, 1855, give or take a day or two.

*Mahlon Stone, whose full name may be Mahlon Samuel Stone, b. Sept. 20, 1845 and d. Sept. 14, 1934. Buried in what is now known as Rose Hill cemetery, Nevinville, Adams county, Iowa. Wife was Anna B. McBride Stone. They were married March 12 1875 in Henry county, Iowa. Reportedly they had 10 children.

*Jacob Stone, 1849-1924, buried in Ellston Iowa Cemetery, Ellston, Ringgold county, Iowa. Buried with wife Natalie Shorts Stone.
