Lona Cooper Keahey was born December 16, 1920 in Cloud Chief, OK to Nellie A. and Ulyssis T. McGuire and died February 20, 1997 in her sons home after a courageous battle with cancer at the age of 76.
Lona attended school in Lake Valley and Sayre. She moved to Cheyenne in 1938 where she has resided for the past 58 years. Lona has been very active in the community and was a member of the Eastern Star, Sorosis Club and Senior Citizens.
Lona worked in the Roger Mills County Court House for a number of years that included County Clerk, Secretary for the District Attorneys Office and was currently the secretary of the Election Board.
She was a member of the Cheyenne First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, two brothers, W.G. and Walter McGuire; one sister, Vernell White.
Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Monday at the Cheyenne First Baptist Church officiated by Terrell Romberg, and assisted by Andy Taylor. Interment will be in the Cheyenne Cemetery, Cheyenne, OK under the direction of Rose Chapel Funeral Service. The casket will be closed at the service, friends may visit at the funeral home until service time.
Survivors include; one son and his wife, Tom and Donna Cooper of Edmond; two grandchildren, Kyle and Ty Cooper of Edmond; one brother, Ross McGuire of Stockton, CA; five sisters, Helen Eres of Sacramento, CA; Margaret Ryans of Ft. Cobb; Betty Joe Kendall, Ethelene Jones, both of Lodi, CA; and Elnora Conn of Stockton, CA; a host of relatives and friends.
