Lela was a teacher for 35 years with the Alton School District. She was a member of the First Christian Church in Alton.
William was a milk delivery driver for 40 years. He worked for Community Dairy of Alton and later for Prairie Farms. He retired in 1965.
Lela died at D'Adrian Convalescent Center at the age of 90 years, 5 months and 23 days old.
She was survived by 2 daughters, Judy Kitchens of Alton, and Rita Hatfield of Brighton; 4 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 1 sister, Zella Williford of Phoenix, Arizona.
In addition to her parents, Lela was preceded in death by her husband, William, who passed away in 1987. She was also preceded by 3 brothers and 2 sisters.
Graveside services were conducted at 9:30 a.m. on the morning of 28 Jul 2000 at Valhalla Memorial Park. Gent Funeral Home in Alton was in charge of arrangements.
