Charles "Sonny" Jones, Sr., 74, of Clute, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, September 3, 2012. He was born May 14, 1938 in Webb City, Oklahoma, to Charles Houston and Juanita Pearl Jones
Charles "Sonny" Jones, Sr., 74, of Clute, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Monday, September 3, 2012. He was born May 14, 1938 in Webb City, Oklahoma, to Charles Houston and Juanita Pearl Jones.
Sonny joined the U. S Navy in 1955 where he was a boilermaker. He was a meter reader/collector for HL&P. He also worked for Coca-Cola for 18 years making many friends. He began trucking 1987 with several different companies. He enjoyed driving the country that he loved so much. He was able to drive to 48 states, every Province in Canada and complained that he didn't get to go to the different national parks.
In 1977 he joined First Baptist Church of Richwood. While a member he was mentored to be a visitation leader and door greeter. He became very involved in telling others about the saving grace of the Lord that he served. He then joined First Baptist Church of Brazoria, and later First Baptist Church of Clute where he was a member when he was called home. Everywhere he went he asked the people if they knew the Lord that he praised so much.
Sonny was married to his first wife, Janice V. Jones, from December 17, 1960 until her death on December 17, 2001. He was married to Patty Duke Jones from October 25, 2003, until his death. He took his commitment of marriage to heart. It was a promise to God to stand by and to love the woman that was given to him to love.
He is survived by his wife of nine years, Patty Duke-Jones; sons, Charles "Chuck" Jones, Jr. and wife, Carol, George Jones and wife, Ruth; step-daughters, Patricia Mager and husband, Mark, Sherri Jones and husband, Mike; special niece, Annie Stout and husband, Bud; sisters, Louise Epps, Joyce Stainer and Marceta Pirtle; brother, Johnnie Jones; grandchildren, Johnathan, Douglas, Gwendolyn (Jeff Wright), Timothy, Edward, Allye, Gracie, Mindy, Macy, Mikayla, Traci and Kenna; great-granddaughter, Gabby Guillen; and many other loving relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his infant son, Danny Paul Jones; wife of 41 years, Janice V. Jones; father, Charles H. Jones; mother, Juanita P. Jones-Sanders; and sister, Charlene Bennett.
