A homemaker, Mrs. McCachren was born in Albemarle, N.C., and moved to Gainesville 50 years ago from Jacksonville. Active in the community, she was a member of the "original" Gardenia Garden Circle, a member of Circle of Gainesville Garden Club; an associate member of Gainesville Women's Club, and past president of the Gainesville Women's Golf Association.
Mrs. McCachren was a member First United Methodist Church and Women of First United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, James R. McCachren of Gainesville; a son, James R. McCachren Jr. of Gainesville; two sisters, Mary Hughes of High Point, N.C., and Kathryn Connor of Raleigh, N.C.; and three grandsons.
