Jan Arnett Cox

Jan Arnett Cox, South Pine Street, Elizabethton, passed peacefully on September 2, 2012, at Franklin Woods Community Hospital, with her three children at her bedside.

Born on January 15, 1942, Jan is the daughter of the late Harry Edwin Arnett and is survived by her mother, Edna Johnson Arnett, Elizabethton; and a beloved aunt, Georgia Arnett Williams, Johnson City.

Jan was a lifelong resident of Elizabethton, and, like her mother, spent her life in service to loved ones. Her family will forever cherish her fierce and unconditional love.

Jan graduated from Elizabethton High School in the class of 1960 and attended college at the University of Michigan in Flint. Her varied work life included GEICO in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area, HIS Sportswear, Texas Instruments, local call centers, and Sunny's Cafeteria in Johnson City.

In addition to her mother and aunt, Jan is also survived by an uncle, Nick Johnson and wife Jean of Fort Washington, Maryland; a brother, Chris Arnett and wife Sue; Elizabethton; two sons, Alan Arnett of Winchester, Virginia; and James Ausburne of Elizabethton; one daughter, Misty Ausburne and husband Don Pruett, Elizabethton; two nephews, James and Neil Arnett and two grandchildren, Brianna and Savannah Pruett.

In addition to five aunts and uncles, Jan was also preceded in death by grandparents C.C. and Alice Walker Arnett and Leonard and Annie Higgins Johnson. We know that Jan is missed and remembered by many cousins and extended family in Tennessee, Michigan, Texas, Maryland, Missouri, Virginia, and Florida.

Jan loved reading, storytelling, music, and enjoyed travels to Spain with son Alan, to Mexico with ex-husband Jim Cox, and to New Orleans with lifelong friend Brenda Ryan. Her life was also blessed by a multitude of special friends, including Holly Hays, Terri Tassler, and Billie Kemper.

In accordance with her wishes, Jan will be cremated, and family and friends are welcome to visit the family's home at 310 East "C" Street in Elizabethton.
