Alvin, of Knox, Indiana, was born Dec 24, 1936 in Hillsville, Virginia. He is suvived by his wife Nancy York of 52 years, sons Alvin (LeaAnne ) York Jr., of Colorado, Paul (Debbie) York of Colorado, Howard York of Colorado, daughter Sarah (Aaron) Eck of Mishawaka, Indiana, one sister Shirley McGrady of Springfield, Va., 10 grand children, and 9 great grand children. He was preceded in death by his parents William & Ila York, a daughter Sandra Ferguson, a sister Elizabeth Barr, two brothers Folger York, and Marvel York. Funeral services provided by M.C. Smith funeral home of Knox, Indiana on Sunday, Dec 11, 2011. He was in the US Army from January 4, 1954 and received his honorable discharge on March 27, 1957. While in the US Army he served with the 1st Armored Division "Old Ironsides" and served as a paratrooper with the 82nd Airborne Division at Ft. Bragg, NC.
