Mary Lillian Hayes Helbert, 93, of Life Care Center of Elizabethton, passed away Tuesday, September 2, 2008, at the Center.
A native of Elk Park, N.C., she was a daughter of the late William and Anna Louise Palmer Hayes.

Mrs. Helbert had lived in Elizabethton for a number of years. She worked as a nurse's aide for several years and was a member of the Borderview Christian Church. Mrs. Helbert's hobby was collecting ceramic chickens.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, John F. Blevins; her second husband, Dewey Helbert; her step-children, Ollie Shipley, Nell Hawk, Earnest, Gleason and Henry Blevins; her brothers, Floyd, Hobert, Earnest, Dallas and J.D. Hayes; and her sisters, Sally Winters and Cora Hayes.
Survivors include her daughter, Armetta Blevins Hunigan and her husband Charles of Piney Flats; her step-grandchildren, Clayton Hawk, Rev. James Hawk, Ted, John, Mark and Randy Blevins; several step-great-grandchildren; her daughter-in-law, Mary Sue Blevins of Elizabethton; her sister-in-law, Lula Mae Hayes of San Antonio, Texas; several nieces and nephews; and her special caregiver, Crystal Cordell.

Funeral services for Mrs. Helbert will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 6, at Memorial Funeral Chapel with Mr. Kirk Langston and Rev. James Hawk officiating. Music will be provided by Freda Winters. Interment will follow at Happy Valley Memorial Park. Active pallbearers will be Clayton Hawk, Ted, John, Mark and Randy Blevins and Calvin Winters. Honorary pallbearers will be Willie Mathes, Ralph Simerly, Jim Hicks, Scott Reynolds, Ray Don Markland, Herman Colbaugh, her church family and employees of Life Care Center of Elizabethton. The family will receive friends from 1 to 2 p.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Friends may also call at the residence of her daughter and son-in-law, Armetta and Charles Hunigan, 204 Cheshire Lane, Piney Flats.
