Lawson Barnes, 93, Syracuse and Round Island, died Monday at the home of his daughter, Joan B. Miller, Williamsville.
Mr. Barnes retired in 1970 as a partner in the law firm of Melvin & Melvin, Syracuse. He was a former president of Onondaga Hotel Corp. and a real estate investor.
Born May 12, 1907, in Syracuse, son of George M. and Agnes Rafferty Barnes, he was a graduate of Syracuse University and its School of Law, where he was a member of the Psi Upsilon fraternity.
A Navy veteran of World War II, he retired from the Navy Reserve at the rank of lieutenant commander.
His first wife, the former Elizabeth DeVine, and his second wife, the former Nancy Greenleese (note from researcher: marriage date of that marriage: 5 May 1973), both died before him.
Mr. Barnes was a former secretary with the Onondaga County Democratic Party and once ran for Congress on the Democratic ticket. He was a member of the state and Onondaga County bar associations.
Surviving besides his daughter are another daughter, Barbara B. Duryea, Fulton; a son, George L., Philadelphia, Pa.; two stepdaughters, Dale G. Beeby, Alexandria, Va., and Joyce C. Greenleese, Jacksonville, N.C.; a stepson, Ronald B. Greenleese, Alexandria, Va., 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren.
A son, Gary M., died before him.
A graveside service will be at 11 a.m. Friday in St. Mary's Cemetery, DeWitt. Friends may gather at 10:50 a.m. Friday at the cemetery entrance.
Calling hours will be 7 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Fairchild & Meech Funeral Home, Syracuse.
