Mr. Jabez Peter Wells, 79, of 313 Southland Drive, Danville, VA went to be with his Lord at Memorial Hospital in Danville after suffering an apparent heart seizure.

He was the son of the late Charlie Wesley Wells and Ida Hankins Wells. He had been a resident of Danville since 1916. In 1925 he started the J P Wells Insurance Agency.

He was past president of the Bi-State Baseball League, a member of First Baptist Church and a veteran of World War I.

He married Claudine Woodrum Jarrett on March 22, 1920, who is deceased.

Surviving are three sons Jabez Peter Wells, Jr, and Richard A Wells, both of Danville and Linwood D Wells of Martinsville, VA.

Also surviving are two brothers Lloyd W Wells of Bassett, VA and Carroll D Wells of Martinsville, VA and six sisters Mrs. Sallie Wells Reynolds and Mabel Wells Merricks, both of Callands, VA, Mrs. Sue Wells Pierce of Washington, DC, Mrs. Mary Wells Hopper of Woodbridge, VA, Mrs Elise Wells Caldwell of Alexander, VA and Mrs. Ruby W Dyerle of Highland Springs, VA.

Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church with the Reverend Robert T Heard officiating.

Interment was in Highland Burial Park in Danville.
