Lila Faye "Polly" Matula, wife, mother and grandmother, passed away peacefully on April 18, 2010. She was born in Bay City, on Dec. 18, 1930 to the late Zefflick and Nellie Butter.
Mrs. Matula is survived by her loving husband of 59 years, Chester James Matula of Wharton; son, Michael Matula and wife, Sherrie, of Houston; daughter, Brenda Gyurich of Richmond; daughter, Laura Kacal and husband, Roy, of Richmond; and son, Timothy Matula and his wife, Martha of Houston. She is survived by her grandchildren, Melody Presswood, Brandon Gyurich, Michele Matula, Lacey Kacal, Nancy Raley and Brittany Herrlein; and great-granddaughter, Kaylem Raley.
She is preceded in death by her brother, Joe Butter and sisters, Nell Simpson and Louise Crow. She also leaves one sister-in-law, Ida Mae Allen.
Mrs. Matula spent her childhood years in Wadsworth, and graduated from Boling High School in 1946. She attended beauty college in Houston after graduation. Later she moved to Wharton and worked at the Utipia Drive Inn as a carhop where she met and fell in love with Chester. They were married on her birthday, Dec. 18, in 1950.
A few of Her favorite things included playing bingo, trips to the casino, cooking, shopping at WalMart with the girls, puzzles and, of course, family times.
She will be dearly missed by family and friends. A more precious soul could not be found. Farewell good and faithful servant.

A rosary and visitation for family and friends will be held at the Wharton Funeral Home on Friday evening, April 23, from 7 to 9 p.m.
Funeral mass will be held on Saturday, April 24 at 1 p.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church in Wharton. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Park Cemetery in Wharton.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, P.O. Box 4486, Houston, TX 77210-4486; mdanderson.org/gifts; or the American Cancer Society.
