Diederick Riemann was born at Woquard, East Friesland, near Emden, in Germany on 2-15-1851.  Passed away at his home in Claflin, Kansas on Aug. 1, 1930, age 79 y 5 m 16 d.
His early life was spent in Germany.  At the age of 16, he came to America.
The first 10 years were spent in Illinois.  He came to Kansas in the spring of 1877.  He was one of the pioneer men of Barton County and endured his share of hardships in the earlier days here.
Was a good neighbor, he endorsed the Christian religion and joined the Methodist Chruch.  He carried an active interest in church work and was a faithful member and a regular attendant as long as he was able.  He was a helpless invalid for over 4 years.  During his recent illness, which lasted almost 16 weeks, he was always patient and uncomplaining.  Those who knew him best are assured that he lived true to his christian ideals.  This is his families sincere appreciation of him.  He was one of those quiet unassuming persons whose kindness came naturally and from the heart because it found the sources of power in the riches of love in Jesus Christ.  Mr. Riemann leaves a wife and 8 children, 3 daughters having preceded him in death.
The living children are: Mrs. Agnes Bernstorf, living north of Chase, Mrs. Lydia Harzman of Claflin, Mrs. Katie Fett of Harrisburg, SD, John and Henry Riemann of Claflin and Mrs. Elsie Blythe of Minneapolis, MN.  23 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren and 1 sister.
Funeral services held Monday afternoon Aug 4, 1930 at the Methodist Chruch in Claflin, Kansas, burial in Claflin Cemetery.
