Daniel was born in Hopewell Twp., old Hunterdon (now Mercer) Co., NJ, according to descendants' D.A.R. applications. He was the son of Samuel Cook and Prudence Laning. He married Keziah Smith on 26 May 1804 in old Hunterdon Co. He died in Hopewell Twp., then still in Hunterdon Co.
