CARLSBAD--A funeral for Ernesto A. Armendariz, 72, of North Maple Street, is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. Saturday at San Jose Catholic Church with Father Valentine Jankowski officiating. Interment will follow at Loving Cemetery.
A vigil is scheduled for 7 p.m. today at San Jose Catholic Church.
Mr. Armendariz died Wednesday, Dec. 3, 2003, at Carlsbad Medical Center.
Denton-Funchess Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Ernesto A. Armendariz was born Monday, Dec. 8, 1930, in Loving. He had been an active member of LULAC Council 206 and had held positions as an officer and on the board of directors. He was a member of San Jose Catholic Church and was active in the Holy Name Society. He loved dancing and playing music, but most of all, he loved his family and his grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife; his parents; brothers, Henry and Ermillio; and a son, Larry Navarrette.
He is survived by sons, Henry Armendareiz and wife, Karen, and Elmer Armendariz and wife, Holley, of Carlsbad, Ernie Armendariz and wife, Pam, of Albuquerque and Gary Armendariz; daughters, Nancy Melendrez, Velma Carrasco and Evelyn "Frenchie" McIntire and husband, Eddie, all of Carlsbad; brothers, Eloy Armendariz and wife, Mary Lou, and Ervie Armendariz and wife, Carmen, all of Albuquerque; a sister, Elodia Gonzalez and husband, Ramon, of Loving; and 23 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
