      Vera Margaret Heimbach Cornwell, 81, passed away Saturday, September 1, 2012 at her home in Rexburg.

      Vera was born April 12, 1931 in Weiser, Idaho, to Walter Z. And Margaret V. Putnam, the youngest of four children.

      Vera met her first husband, John W. Heimbach, while he was stationed at the Air Force base in Mountain Home, Idaho and they were married November 1, 1952. They lived in many different locations around the country and overseas, including Turkey. Vera and John were blessed with their first daughter, Karen, while stationed in Bermuda and four years later their second daughter, Heidi, while stationed at Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota. They divorced after 27 years of marriage.

      Vera met her second husband, Nevin P. Cornwell, after moving to Oklahoma City the winter of 1979. Their friendship blossomed and they eloped To Durant, Oklahoma and married December 11, 1980. They were faithful companions for seventeen years. He died August 1997.

      Vera had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling when she was in better health. She had a quick wit and great sense of humor. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

      Vera is survived by her daughters, Karen M. Nielsen (Chad) of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, and Heidi B. Smith (Alan) of Rexburg; 12 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

      Besides her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband, Nevin P. Cornwell, and her three brothers: Delbert, Glenn and Donald.

      Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, September 6, 2012 at the Millhollow LDS Church with Bishop Jason Hunt officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, at the church from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. prior to services.
